This presentation examines the rapidly changing business environment, growing expectations of Canadians and the resulting impact on Canada’s ability to garner approvals and to construct new pipeline projects. This new reality demands new approaches and the members of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) are changing, adapting and collaborating to meet this new reality both now and into the future. The presentation will explore how those changes are unfolding.
Key Takeaways include:
This presentation defines the multiple regulatory authorities for such projects, levels of consultation required and scope novelty for the area. The Flying Kite Incorporated
Oil & Gas Operators and EPC firms struggle at executing capital projects. Meeting targets has become almost like wishful thinking. Are systems helping? Why not? What is missing? This presentation defines how lean can be the most effective management system in today’s economic uncertainty. Most lean initiatives cannot be sustained with the stroke of a pen, a leadership mandate, changing a system, a training program or restructuring. The real gains to be had come from ensuring that it becomes everybody's job to find opportunities for improvement rather than the domain of a specialized few. This, we feel, is at the problem at heart of most organizations struggling to implement and sustain a culture of continuous improvement. We will explore the problems with the way most organizations implement continuous improvement and present a more effective model.

Water is essential to Canada’s economic success. In particular, development of our vast oil and gas reserves is heavily dependent on access to readily-available supplies of water to conduct the necessary exploration and development activities to keep us in the global game. Although our hydrocarbon reserves are envyed by many, the decline in conventional reserves has forced industry to chase more difficult plays to fill the gap in demand. Therefore, development of our shale gas, tight oil, and bitumen deposits cannot be realized without a sufficient and secure supply of water. Many of the companies striving to access these unconventional resources are now coming to the realization that water is the limiting factor, and that access to it will dictate the outcome of their success.
Many would think that as a country with 0.5% of the world’s population and 20% of the world’s fresh water we should have nothing to worry about. From an “average pot of view this may be the case. But water isn’t always where we want it, when we want it. One of the major influencers on water availability is our climate, which plays a key role in achieving our desired goals of continued economic development, protection of the environment, and the associated benefits to society. Given the constraint around quantity and quality of water, understanding, appreciating, and being able to adapt to (and manage through) extremes will be key for the future of unconventional oil and gas development in Canada.
This presentation will explore some of the key factors affecting water availability and reliability in Western Canada, and identify some of the approaches and measures that can be employed to ensure future success of Canada’s energy sector.
